About Me

HEALTH PSYCHOLOGIST

As a mental health therapist, I specialize in the treatment of trauma. I have provided care to individuals who have lost a family member or loved one by murder, adults struggling with opioid dependency, men in a residential substance recovery program, veterans with combat trauma, university students, and chronically ill patients with histories of medical trauma. As a therapist I do not tell you what to do, rather I work collaboratively with you to help you identify your values so that you can make decisions that feel congruent and aligned with your core.

I am trained in and utilize the following treatment modalities: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Nutritional Psychology, Person-Centered Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Health Psychology. Depending on the patient, I also enjoy integrating expressive arts interventions into the therapy work.

As a health psychologist I take a functional approach to healing and wellness as I recognize that wholeness requires more than symptom reduction. To that end, I am interested in helping individuals heal at the nervous system level. Often times physical health and/or mental health challenges can hijack the nervous system making rest, relaxation, joy, connection, and task completion difficult. That's where I like to focus my work. My goal is to help you regulate your nervous system using sustainable skills and strategies that you can refer to any time you feel you need a tune-up.

NUTRITIONIST

As a nutrition counselor, I specialize in developing personalized weight-loss protocols for my clients. Standing at 5'2", as an adult I have weighed 180lbs at my heaviest and 122lbs at my smallest. Obesity and health challenges run in my family, and it's been a goal of mine to learn how to implement preventive measures in my life and to help others do the same. Weight loss is such a mind game, and once you realize that, there really is no stopping you. I help my clients bio-hack their weight loss journeys by leading with science, making it fun, and wrapping the experience in mountains of education so that they can maintain their gains and pay it forward to their loved ones as well.

UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR

I love teaching! I see it as a gift to be able to play a part in educating those who are coming behind me. I teach in graduate programs at Pepperdine University and the University of Southern California, and I love my students. Their passion inspires me, and I do my best to create learning experiences that they will remember for years to come.

AUTHOR

As a trauma survivor, writing was my safe haven for many years. When I felt I had no one to talk to, I put my thoughts and feelings onto the page. I have published two titles, Still Standing and The Golden Penny, and have several more in the works.

PUBLIC SPEAKER

I have been speaking alone on a stage since I was in elementary school. I am fortunate to be skilled at something that frightens so many. Even more, I enjoy speaking, training, and facilitating. I find great pleasure in being able to create ah-ha moments for audience members.

ARTIST

Before I was anything, I was an artist, and this is who I am at my core. Dance was my life for many years and then I found acting. I birthed a one-woman show and toured it on the west coast, east coast, and performed abroad. If you peg me as quirky, it's likely my artist self that you happen to be getting a glimpse of. I am most me when that self is allowed to shine front and center.
